Youthful Aging Neuro-Behavioral System

massage

For seniors with behavioral disturbances from Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

Dementia is the most common reason
for nursing home placement, and related behavioral symptoms often are the primary
factor precipitating the decision. Disruptive behavior such as depression, sleep disturbances, agitation, aggression and psychosis can tax family members’ ability
to care for a loved one who experiences this stage of the illness. From 80 to 90 percent of patients develop at least one distressing
symptom during the course of their illness.

Concurrent medical conditions and treatments also can trigger behavioral problems. A common error in the management of behavioral disturbances is to treat them without first identifying the causes. Unless the physician and family have a clear understanding of the behavior being treated and the goals of the treatment, the results are often unsatisfactory.

The goal of our Neuro-Behavioral System is to provide access to specialized services enabling clients to reach their maximum physical and memory capacity for as long as possible. It is to delay, if not prevent, a client being institutionalized.

Early Planning Consultations

Families often wait for a crisis to occur before engaging needed services. We encourage family members to be proactive and put proper safeguards in place to prevent having to make important decisions during a crisis. Planning for both short- and long-term needs, and updating power of attorney and health care surrogate designations are all early planning
recommendations.
